Home Sales Decline in October

Despite record low mortgage rates, existing home sales declined 2.2 percent in October compared to September. The sales decline came on the heels of two consecutive strong monthly gains. Existing home sales, which are completed transactions that include single-family homes, townhomes, condominiums, and co-ops fell to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 4.43 million units.

Third Quarter Home Prices a Mixed Bag

Depending on if you’re a “the glass is half full” or a “the glass is half empty” type of person is pretty much how you would sum up home prices for the third quarter of 2010. According to the National Association of Realtors (NAR), compared to the same period last year, the median price for home resales fell in 76 out of 155 areas in which NAR tracks. Prices rose in 77 areas and were unchanged in two.
